4 Brutally Simple Steps To Being An Effective Leader For Any Role

Leadership is simple.

Yet, I’m one to accept a challenge, and I made it complicated in my early leadership years. I made all about the nuances and micro-priorities.

But what’s most important, in any leadership role, are these steps:

Step 1: Define Your What

To be an effective leader, you must create and clarify the vision (the “what”).

Your “what” occurs for everything:

  • Your company Playbook
  • Your quarterly objectives
  • An important project or task

If your team doesn’t know the what, what’s the point?

Step 2: Articulate Your Why

The why gives your vision greater context and importance (the “why”).

Your team needs to know why something is important. Busy work just doesn’t cut it or get your team motivated to push through obstacles.

Ask yourself, “What’s the biggest difference this will make?”

Step 3: Identify The Who

You need to find or identify the best person who can own the vision.
