You gain more by focusing on less.

We often think we need more money, more people, more customers, more technology, more this, and more that. But more causes friction. More is a distraction; it causes things to slow down.

The most important thing is keeping the most important the most important thing.

Focus on your fewer, better.

According to David Finkel, your Fewer, Better are things that, when done well, “will truly make the biggest difference in helping your company reach its top goals.”

It’s your ability to escape the noise. When you invest your time and money into the right things, the right things deliver compounding returns. The opposite is true when you’re always trying to do too much; it dilutes you.

“Narrow your focus to more of what matters most by eliminating those things that matter less,” Finkel adds.

Ask yourself three alignment questions.

The best way to focus on your Fewer, Better is by continually asking yourself these questions:

  1. What are the 7 biggest obstacles and threats standing in the way from reaching our goals?
  2. What are the 3 biggest opportunities that, if executed well, would have a tremendous impact on our company?
  3. What is the single most important strategic objective or idea that, if my entire team rallied fully behind it, would have the biggest positive impact on helping my company thrive?

Once you’ve identified what matters, design time daily to execute on them.

Don’t major in minor things.
