Why You Should Outsource These Functions Of Your Business To Help It Thrive

But for some, outsourcing triggers an emotional response.
They think, “I can’t give up control to someone I don’t know,” or “if I outsource I can’t micromanage from dusk until dawn.”
If that’s true, then that person needs to seek help as they have a severe case of controlitis.
I’ve felt this way in the past. I outsourced a function, more like abdicated it, and got pissed when things didn’t work out.
It was all my fault.
But now, I’m hiring subcontractors from all over, and our team is better because of it.
Outsourcing is crucial for a small business to manage its finite resources while focusing on what’s most important.
Before you decide to outsource everything but yourself, ask yourself:
What should be outsourced?
The answer is simpler than you think.
If it’s strategic, keep the work in-house. For example, sales, product development, and engineering are significant areas NOT to outsource.
Learn to build excellence in these areas internally.
Your focus must be on the product, customer, and team. Perfect these three things and find ways to outsource the rest.
If it’s administrative or highly repeatable, outsource it. For example, Human Resources and administrative work are excellent areas to outsource.
Recently I’ve begun to outsource my entire sales support team, led by our CSR Manager. The team has never been better.
That doesn’t mean arbitrarily delegating pieces of your business to someone you don’t know. You still have to do due diligence and execute a perfect hiring plan.
You also have to ensure you’re clear on the vision and success criteria in the areas you’re hiring. If the people you hire can’t champion the vision and don’t know what success looks like, the relationship will fail.
And don’t assume you always need to outsource to a human. There are thousands of SaaS tools to use for highly-repeatable functions.
The reality is most things don’t need to stay bottled up inside your company. You have a whole world waiting to work with you.
Open your eyes to outsourcing and invest internally in what matters the most.
