Why You Must Define Your Success Criteria To Thrive In Business And In Life
It’s possible to live life on your terms.
You pursue specific goals because they light a fire under you, not because you’re trying to be what others want you to be.
The same goes for business.
You set goals to differentiate yourself from all the other crap being jammed down your client’s throats. You don’t just follow the leader and try to be and do what everyone else is doing.
You do this by having success criteria you filter everything through:
Success criteria become your North Star, which helps you filter noise and distraction.
Anything to help filter out the noise and distraction is a win for me.
Your criteria are how you filter every decision to help you focus on what’s more important while not playing into mimetic desire traps.
Everyone’s success criteria are different.
Benjamin Hardy, PhD gives an example of Dean Jackson’s criteria in his book, The Gap and the Gain:
- I can wake up every day and ask, “What would I like to do today?”
- My passive revenue exceeds my lifestyle needs.
