What You Need To Know About Grow vs. Role Players To Build A Thriving Team
Successful teams are built upon unique strengths.
A football team can have the world’s greatest quarterback, but he’s worthless without a receiver to catch his pass and an offensive line to protect him.
All great teams need grow and role players.
Role vs. Grow Players.
Most teams will have more role players than grow players.
If you have too many grow players, you will drive yourself nuts juggling egos, business development, and internal turnover to other positions. Balance is important.
A role player is someone who wants to do their job.
They’re not looking to grow beyond their current function. They love what they do, and they’re damn good at it.
You can spot a role player through their behavior. When you give them new and ambiguous functions, they’re hesitant and resistant. They’re a little more closed off to feedback. They either get defensive, stay silent, or block it out.
They want to put their heads down and do, do, do.
A grow player is defined as someone who wants to learn, grow, and develop.
