What you see isn’t always what you get.

The sweet Florida heat gently embraced our bodies as we walked to breakfast (something only a Floridian would say) while visiting St. Augustine, Florida. As we strolled through the streets, we approached a trash collector.

The gentleman hopped off the back of the truck with a big smile.

He greeted my wife and youngest son then jogged down the street to remove an old mattress from the sidewalk, which blocked my stroller’s path. “Good morning,” he said with another big smile. After breakfast, we began our walk back to the Airbnb house.

We heard a HONK, HONK!

It was the driver of the trash collector truck. All young boys love a good truck honk. The driver looked out the window, yelled something inaudible, smiled, and drove away.

That morning experience taught me a lot about business and life:

1) Always strive to create a healthy, lasting impression.

This experience set the motion for the rest of my day. It genuinely made me happy. I admire people who are loving life, no matter what stage of life they’re in. They shared their joy with my family.

2) Be friendly.
