The One Thing Employees Despise About Their Job (+ A Simple Fix)
People “want” work-life balance, but balance is a myth.
Life is messy. Balance suggests you seek a life of equilibrium, which is never the case. Yet, the way companies accept a standard system of working hours and annoying personal time off policies is flawed.
Employers can instantly improve team productivity and culture with better PTO benefits.
Working hours and strict PTO causes teams to be unproductive.
People don’t become more productive the more hours they work.
As a leader, it’s not a good use of my time to accept and reject PTO. What’s more important for me is to recruit, develop and coach future team members. I don’t need to allocate my attention to control people’s time.
Results and cultural fit are the ultimate accountability partner.
If my teams and individual contributors are hitting our companies big objective, why do I care if they need to pick up their child from daycare? Or to run to a doctor’s appointment. Or go for an hour nature walk to decompress midday.
Team members should be able to take time off when they need or want it.
