The One Essential Book That Will Transform Your Habits Forever

Most things that negatively plague our lives are habitual.

The fidget eating any time you’re sitting still (me, me) or the hourly smoke break to calm your nerves (eww). Bad habits, compounded over decades, can kill you. But the same is true for good habits; instead of killing you, they make you stronger and perhaps even more successful.

But after reading hundreds of blog posts and dozens of books, the only book you’ll ever need to read to upgrade your habits is Tiny Habits. (don’t blast me, but I didn’t finish Atomic Habits).

Here are my 5 biggest takeaways:

Behavior = Motivation + Ability + Prompt (B=MAP)

A behavior happens when the three elements of MAP — Motivation, Ability, and Prompt — come together simultaneously.

Motivation is your desire to do the behavior.

The more motivated you are to do a behavior, the more likely you’ll do the behavior.

“When motivation is high, people not only take action when prompted, they can also do difficult things.”

Ability is your capacity to do the behavior.
