There’s an undiagnosed mental illness affecting office professionals.

Before the pandemic, up to 80 percent of office workers suffered from continuous partial attention. As we enter new heights of remote work, the negative impact will become exponentially worse. We’ve become screen zombies.

It’s so prevalent The National Institutes of Health has assigned researchers such as Dr. David Anderson and Dr. Margaret Chesney to study the effects over the past decades.

Continuous partial attention is when you attempt to focus on multiple things like emails, messages, and social media, all at once, all day.

But partial attention is only half of the apocalyptic screen curse.

How much of our mental and physical decline is attributed to not getting enough time outside?

A lot according to various studies:

  • A 2018 meta-analysis published in The British Journal of Psychiatry low vitamin D is associated with depression.
  • The Baker Research Institute in Melbourne, Australia, found when we don’t spend enough time in direct sunlight, it negatively impacts our body’s serotonin level. That’s the ‘feel-good” chemical.
