The Antidote to Delegation Chaos

Most managers fall on a spectrum of delegation competence.

It lands between complete abdication and severe control-itis. What happens the most often is a leader’s fear of delegation. They prefer to “do it themselves.”

Over-control is ineffective, time-consuming, and costly.

Create effective feedback loops to become a master delegator.

A feedback loop is when the manager clearly articulates what’s expected while the team member gets the information they need, clearly and concisely.

Here’s how they’re structured for maximum impact:

  • What to report: a clear explanation of what’s to be reported.
  • Frequency of the report: how often the report needs to be executed.
  • How to report: what medium the team member will use to deliver the report.
  • Why the report is important.
  • Confirmation of understanding.
  • A follow-up mechanism to ensure follow-through and accountability.
