I had a sleep disorder that F’ed everything up.

I didn’t know it at the time, but my sleep was slowly killing me. It was chipping away at my health, night after night, because I thought being awake was more critical than being asleep.

My days started at 4:30 am to get a jump on my most important priorities.

But I was miserable. My mind and body didn’t want to wake up. So I forced myself into an unnatural state, and I paid dearly for it.

I quickly began to spin myself into exhaustion, anxiety, and other nasty side effects because I didn’t give my mind and body the rest they deserved.

There are no exceptions. Yes, that includes you.

People celebrate waking up early.

They shout out that I wake up at 4:00 am and only need five hours of sleep. They’re full of shit.

In a study from the Division of Sleep and Chronobiology in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania, they concluded that the performance of groups who slept four to six hours was just as impaired as the sleep-deprived group. They also found that all participants “grossly” miscalculated how impaired they were when asked.
