How to Prevent Bad Decisions in Less Than 1 Minute
Making better decisions is simply the art of managing your mind.
As an ADHD, OCD, introverted, type-A CEO, I have my bag of mental assassinations. But, over the years, I’ve become great at making difficult decisions in a short period, while others would struggle with the same challenge for days, weeks, maybe even months.
I contribute better decision-making to these three tactics:
Remove emotions.
Emotions hijack your mental circuitry faster than a hacker in the White House.
They are your body’s reaction to your mind. According to Mark Manson: “they are your brain’s way of telling you something good or bad is happening in your life.” They are a feedback mechanism, and that’s all they are.
Remove all emotions from your decision-making process.
Check your assumptions.
Humans make assumptions about everything.
The problem with assumptions is we believe our assumptions are true. We’re addicted to ignoring information that is inconsistent with our beliefs, aka the confirmation bias. Whenever you assume something, you’re looking for trouble.
