How To Give Your Team The Resources They Need To Thrive
Your team doesn’t need you to coddle them.
In the past, I thought leading was about establishing goals for my team and giving them a clear path on how to achieve those goals.
I would tell them what to do. When they asked questions, I’d have an answer. When they were struggling, I’d give them a direction.
Over many years of trial and error, and eventually having a business advisor coach me to being a more effective leader, I realized, I don’t need to help them with every detail of how to do something, I first needed to:
Articulate the vision.
Dan Sullivan calls it the impact filter.
It’s used to clearly articulate a vision for a goal, project, task, or just about anything. By clarifying the vision and its importance, you can give people the necessary information to go and execute.
You hired them as experts in their domain. Give them room to do what they do, a vision to guide them.
People are attracted to purpose and are looking to contribute to something meaningful.
Establish results that matter.
Work is something you do, not somewhere you go.
