How To Dramatically Improve Your Teams Communication Skills By Asking Clarity Questions
I’ve said many things I didn’t mean, and it’s cost me a lot of pain.
What I’ve said aren’t things that were mean, rude, or cruel; instead, they lacked thought. One sunny morning I was quietly sipping my delicious dark roast coffee when I got an urgent call from my Sales Manager stating we had an order issue. “We have an $18,000 order that needs to urgently ship, but finance is holding the order due to an old invoice.”
So, I got involved with the client to get the outstanding invoice paid, but come to find out, our product was on backorder and couldn’t ship anyway.
My Sales Manager failed to confirm the product for the order was in stock, and I failed to ensure I had all the details, so we both failed the client.
I have hundreds of these situations where I or someone on my team wasn’t clear, and shit hit the fan. It’s stressful, tiring, and can easily be avoided.
Over the years, I’ve learned that communicating clearly and concisely in any situation is incredibly important — it’s essential.
