8 Ways I’ve Avoided Death By Meetings As A Small Business CEO

Meetings can be a massive waste of time, but…

Well executed meetings are an incredible tool that leaders can use to create immense value for their team, company, and stakeholders — when done right.

The term Zoom Fatigue is mischaracterized as having all your meetings done virtually. That’s not the problem. The real issue is having too many crappy meetings, whatever the medium is.

Leaders must constantly evaluate legacy, poorly run, and stupid meetings.

Here are your new meeting laws to live by (bonus if you create a meeting standard operating procedure out of them):

1/ Only meet to create value.

If your meeting is to recite numbers when a simple dashboard will do, delete the meeting.

If the meeting is to cover a long laundry list of topics, only focus on the most important items, postpone or delete the rest.

If it’s a status update, an email or update to your project management software will do just fine.

Meetings are for value creation.

2/ Always plan your meeting in advance.
