You only have a finite amount of time.

The goals you decide to pursue have an opportunity cost. The time and energy you spend on them will replace the time you could, and maybe in some cases should be spending on something else.

Choose your goals wisely.

But at the end of every goal period, you must do an after-action review.

Step 1: State what you wanted to happen.

In this step, you’ll quickly review the goals you wanted to achieve.

Ask yourself:

How did you see the past year going?

What were your plans, dreams, or goals?

Step 2: Acknowledge what happened.

Review the progress you made.

Ask yourself:

What did you accomplish this past year that you were most proud of?

What disappointments or regrets did you experience this past year? What are some opportunities that these regrets reveal?

Step 3: Learn from your experience.
