5 Easy Ways To Filter Your Daily Tasks And Focus On What Matters
Productivity systems cause me mental pain.
A well-intentioned system, over time, gets out of control. All that matters is if you do great work on your highest priorities. Everything else is noise.
I use five filters on ALL my tasks to help eliminate the noise; doing what matters the most:
Delete: All my tasks start with a finger over the delete key. If I don’t complete this, will it matter? Does this need to be done? If it’s a no, I hit the delete key with joyous force.
Design Out: Does this task need to get done? If yes, can I use automation and software to execute the task?
Defer: Is this task best deferred to a later date? If so, I reschedule it.
Document: Is this a simple recurring task? I document or video record how to accomplish the task and assign it to someone else.
Delegate: Is this task best suited for someone else’s area of responsibility? Can you give more responsibility to someone on the team? If yes, I hand the task off. Delegation is not abdication!
Do: Is the task in my area of responsibility? Am I good at it, or do I have a passion for this area? Is it something only I can do to push my most important priorities forward? Yes, I plan and execute these tasks.
That was six but do is game time.
Filter out the noise so you can focus on what matters the most, your DOs.
