4 Costly Mistakes Leaders Make When Managing Role Players

Role Players are the backbone of getting work done at your company.

But pushing them to be something they’re not will force them to quit or be unhappy working for you. You have to embrace role players for who they are, a crucial asset to the team.

Avoid these four mistakes at all costs:

Pushing them to be grow players.

Just because you’re a grow player or you need grow players on the team doesn’t mean everyone falls into this bucket.

Role players like comfort. They don’t like new.

Accepting subpar results.

You don’t just need a body in a role.

Role players still need to produce the results you seek within that role. Accepting the status quo of subpar role players is a sin.

Upgrade!

Forgetting they want to succeed, they just don’t want to grow.

Great role players want to excel, succeed, and improve.

But what they want is for that growth to be localized to their role, area, or expertise.

Focus on their growth as a professional versus growth as a manager or individual.
