3 Massive Trends All Businesses Must Embrace To Retain Their Talent Or Else

The belief that managing people’s time generates high-quality business results is flawed.
At some point in the past, it was effective. We had to go to the office because that’s where everything was; the fax machine, the landline, and the micromanager.
People couldn’t work virtually. There was no virtual. You had to be in a physical space.
Over time, this presented a problem, as time became the justifier of results. Leaders believed when you’re at work, you’re working.
This became ineffective. People began to play presentism and got used to a low-morale culture.
People want to work and live, but much of their life is controlled by time restrictions placed on them by a company.
Well, time is changing:
Companies will no longer be the ruler of time.
In a remote work world, people will have control over their own time.
“Understanding and adopting the Value Economy means breaking the one-to-one relationship between the hours worked and value created,” teaches David Finkel. People are responsible adults who should have the freedom to work when, where, and how they want.
Work no longer occurs Monday thru Friday between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.
People can work from anywhere in the world.
Work isn’t somewhere you go, but something you do.
The digital age has allowed all knowledge work to be done from anywhere in the world. As a result, leaders can recruit talent from every corner of the globe, and talent can work for an incredible company no matter what country they live in.
Sure, there’s still a place for offices, but that’s not “work.”
The miserable commutes, the frustration of working for a company because it’s the most convenient to where you live, and the horrendous water cooler gossip is gone.
There’s only one thing that matters.
RESULTS.
Who cares where people work, when people like to get their work done, or even how they like to get it done. Work is about achieving results.
Leaders will stop assessing “their team based on the hours and effort they put in,” says David. Instead, every team member will have role clarity, and clear expectations on what success looks like and be given the freedom and flexibility to execute those results.
The barriers to work are being shattered, and the companies who succeed will no longer manage their team’s time; they’ll manage results.
