3 Frustrating Consequences of Unclear Communication And A Simple Fix

Poor communication is the root of all intra-office drama.

Okay, maybe not all drama, especially in a politically driven, corporate atmosphere, but poor communication causes many problems. I see how the wrong message can spiral out of control routinely in my small teams.

To improve your business, team, and life, learn to improve everyone’s communication skills.

These are the consequences if you don’t:

1/ Misunderstandings

My Customer Success Lead brought an issue to our weekly one-on-one.

She said something along the lines of “I was frustrated with X, because he said he didn’t have time to attend to an urgent customer order, and I felt that wasn’t acceptable and surely not in line with our objective of making it ridiculously easy to do business with us.”

The team member replied to a request in our ERP system that said, “I don’t have time right now but I’ll call FedEx in an hour or so.”

Everyone who is a part of our order processing procedure saw the comment.

The comment comes off as brushing a specific need off and breaks many of our core values. But I knew there was more to it, and I suggested that he likely was…
